The Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts has announced the rest of their upcoming season, The Michigan Tech Arts, Music, and Theatre Series, in conjunction with the Visual Performing Arts Department. As a part of the Theatre Series, the department is holding open auditions for their production of “The Glass Menagerie” and “Sweeney Todd.”
The first show will be “The Glass Menagerie.” As stated by the MTU events calendar, “The play that catapulted Tennessee Williams to Broadway fame! Largely autobiographical, [Tom William] narrates the story of his family’s struggle to find their place in an ever-changing world. This intimate play examines our universal struggle with memory, the weight of dreams, and the expectations of others.”
Auditions will be on Wednesday, Sep. 4 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Auditionees will be asked to prepare a monologue not more than two minutes in length. Participants are assured that if they do not have a monologue one will be provided for them. Callbacks will take place Friday, Sep. 6 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The second show will be “Sweeney Todd.” As stated by the MTU events calendar, “Attend the dark, witty and Tony Award-winning tale of love, murder and revenge set against the backdrop of 19th century London. This tasty, thrilling, theatrical treat has simultaneously shocked, awed, and delighted audiences around the world!”
Auditions will be on Monday, Nov. 18 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Auditionees will be asked to prepare two contrasting song cuttings, thirty two bars in length. One must be by Sondheim and participants should bring their own sheet music.
