In the midst of Winter Carnival, members of MUB Board remained quite busy with their role in entertaining students and community members enjoying the festivities. An event entitled Escape the Snow was among their contributions this year, where hot cocoa and cookies were served and where attendees enjoyed board games, card games, movies and coloring as they decompressed in the MUB commons after the eventful annual overnighter.
According to Magann Dykema, who is in her second year with MUB Board, the organization usually participates in events during Winter Carnival’s All Nighter. This year, they did projections on the MEEM, handed out goodies and hosted karaoke in the commons, although they were active throughout the weekend.
Dykema said, “This year we decided to add an event in collaboration with Bigfoot Glowshoe, so that people could come here, warm up afterward, as well as just enjoy some chill thing for people to do Thursday night.” Bigfoot Glowshoe is a snowshoeing event put on by Wellness and the Outdoor Adventure Program which usually occurs on Saturday, but occurred Thursday evening during Winter Carnival. It took place on the Tech Trails across from the Student Development Complex, which were lined with glow sticks for the nighttime event. As part of their collaboration, Escape the Snow began around halfway through Bigfoot Glowshoe, providing those ready to warm up with a nice place to hang out.
At Escape the Snow, the goals of the student-run organization seemed to have been achieved; students appeared very relaxed and comfortable as they chattered about their excitement, warmed up and sipped hot cocoa. The MUB Board did an excellent job providing for students throughout Winter Carnival weekend, and their efforts are apparent year-round.
