Negotiations are now afoot to develop interest in a Western Intercollegiate Hockey Association. Letters have been sent out by the College of Mines Athletic Board to further the project as much as possible.
It is planned to embrace in the Association all the colleges and universities of the central west that maintain hockey teams. Some of the teams who will be invited to help form the league are Notre Dame, Michigan, M. A. C., Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Hamline, St. Thomas Carleton, Milwaukee, Marquette University, and Marquette Normal. It is also planned to offer an invitation to schools of bordering Canadian provinces.
If such an Association eventualises, it will be possible to divide the different members into convenient geographical groups. The winners of the various group championships will meet later in the season to play off for the western title. It is also quite probable that this will develop into a post season series with the winners of the eastern intercollegiate championship.
The hockey association formed this year by a number of the larger eastern colleges has proved highly successful, and for this reason the time is now thought ripe for the formation of a western conference.
