ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks recalled former Michigan Tech hockey player Blake Pietila on Saturday (Jan. 18). This is Pietila’s first call up with the Ducks after playing 38 career NHL games with the New Jersey Devils from 2015-19.
Pietila, a native of Brighton, Michigan, signed a one-year contract with Anaheim on July 2 after playing the last four seasons in the Devils organization which drafted him in 2011. He has four career NHL points with a goal and three assists, along with 12 penalty minutes.
This season in San Diego, Pietila has appeared in 32 AHL games with 14 points on seven goals and seven assists. The 5-11, 180-pound forward has recorded 66-66=132 points in 249 career AHL games with Albany, Binghamton, and San Diego.
Pietila played 153 games for Michigan Tech from 2011-15 and was a two-time captain. He had 106 career points on 46 goals and 60 assists, leading Huskies to the best start in program history in 2014-15, and the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 34 years later that season.
The Ducks have 10 days off between games due to the newly mandated five-day break that each team gets throughout the season and the NHL All-Star game on Saturday (Jan. 25). They play next at San Jose on January 27.
