Students in the Fine Arts class 2190, Art and Nature, are preparing for the opening of their gallery which will showcase their work from this semester. The class, Art and Nature, allows students to explore the nature around them through art. There are 16 artists in the class: Gabriel Lamer, Alex Osterholzer, Alexander Pohl, Andrea Zubke, Bernard Alkire, Brett Howland, Dustin Haxton, Jake DeVries, Jake Peterson, John Hughes, Julia Smith, Liz Adams, Maddie Steger, Mads Howard, Maria Corona and Paul Vogt are all inspired by Anne Baffel, the instructor.
The gallery will open on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in room 209 and its hallway in Walker. Refreshments will be served for those who attend the opening night. Many of the artists will be there to answer any questions one might have about their work and there will also be written artist statements posted explaining the meaning behind the pieces. Many artists’ statements describe how the artist photographed nature and why it struck them enough to do so. John Hughes states, “As I moved forward in my endeavors to find good reflective surfaces, the smooth, glassy nature of this pond stood out to me. What draw me to take this picture was the idea of ‘trees as rocks’ that the reflection gave.”
Anyone interested in how nature can be explored and captured through art will not be disappointed with the opening of this gallery on Nov. 29.
