Michigan Tech’s Design Expo will return this year on Apr. 15, 2025, and this year is particularly notable since it commemorates the event’s 25th anniversary of the expo. Since its inception, the Expo has been a platform for students to present their greatest work; this year is no exception. With over 90 student teams and over 1,000 guests planned to attend, this event is building up to be one of the largest design expos ever.
One of the most notable characteristics this year is the heavy emphasis on health and bioengineering initiatives. The Enterprise Program, which has been operating as long as the Expo, is also receiving attention as it celebrates its 25th year of operation. Expect a lot of attention on Enterprise teams and the influence they’ve had throughout the years.
The event begins with an exposition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Library and the MUB, where spectators may learn about creative student projects. The Awards Mixer and Ceremony will take place later, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Rozsa Center Lobby, followed by a post-event gathering from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This year, a few notable individuals will take the stage. Dr. Richard Koubek, President of Michigan Tech, will offer the opening comments, and Dr. Andrew Storer, Provost, will speak during the awards ceremony. Special prizes will be granted to those who have contributed outstandingly to the Enterprise Program’s success. The Founders Awards will honor the five persons who obtained the original NSF funding that founded Enterprise, while the Distinguished Service Awards will be given to advisers who have been with the program for 15 years or more.
“We have a truly diverse set of projects this year,” said Len Switzer, Associate Director of Enterprise and Senior Design Programs. “Besides the strong showing in health and bioengineering, this Expo features how far the Enterprise Program has come in 25 years.”
With a combination of innovative projects, noteworthy speakers, and special awards, the 25th Annual Design Expo is building up to be a celebration of creativity and cooperation.
