Finals season is rapidly approaching for Michigan Tech students, bringing stress, anxiety, and that familiar sense of dread. As a graduating senior, I want to share a few tips that have helped me survive these challenging weeks.
First and foremost, don’t feel alone; take advantage of the free resources provided on campus. Office hours and the Engineering Learning Center (ELC) have benefited me. Getting help when I’m stuck has saved me from hours of stress. Michigan Tech offers free mental health support, including counseling, peer support, and wellness appointments.
Next, don’t be afraid to take breaks. I know how counterproductive it can feel to stop studying, but stepping away to catch some fresh air and get a snack may help you recharge and focus better when you return. Also, don’t isolate yourself. Studying with friends can help you stay motivated and remind you that everyone’s in this together.
It is also essential to stay organized. Setting goals for the day has been helpful for me. Staying committed to specific goals may help prevent procrastination.
Finally, prioritize sleep. I’ve had my fair share of late-night cram sessions and energy drinks, but a full night of sleep benefits me more. Sleep helps you retain information, stay calm, and perform better.
