In the midst of K-Fest on Saturday, Mar. 22, there was another event being held: the first Jazz Café hosted by fraternity Mu Beta Psi. The event was held in the DHH ballroom, and was an opportunity for students to come grab a hot drink and a doughnut and listen to some of the jazz music that MTU has to offer. The bands playing were the jazz combo Velocity and the Research and Development (R&D) big band.
For additional details about the event, Rushing chair Philip Mankert and MaPA (Music and Performing Arts) Co-chair Joe Migora were interviewed.
Mu Beta Psi is a co-ed music fraternity that simply wants to share music across campus. Mankert and Migora said that they were happy to work with the R&D jazz band and Velocity, and would love to work with more bands moving forward. Mu Beta Psi hopes that they can host more jazz cafés or events like this in the future. Mankert said, “this is a great first step forward for the organization and the bands as a whole.”
Moving forward, on Mar. 26 from 7 to 11 p.m., Mu Beta Psi will be holding a karaoke night in the R.L. Smith Building, room 111. The event is open to the public and people are encouraged to come by and hang out.
