McNair Hall Association hosts Vegas Night

Last Saturday, Mar. 22, students were treated to a night of excitement and entertainment as the McNair Hall Association (MHA) successfully hosted its annual Vegas Night from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. across in Fisher Hall.

The event brought the excitement of a Las Vegas-style casino to campus, featuring a variety of classic casino games where students tested their luck and skills. Popular games included blackjack, poker, and roulette, with additional options such as bingo and euchre for those who preferred alternatives to traditional gambling. The tables were staffed by McNair Hall Presidents, resident assistants, members of Greek life, and dedicated volunteers who ensured a smooth and engaging experience.

Participants started with a set amount of McNair Money, which they used throughout the evening. As they won, McNair Money was exchanged for raffle tickets, increasing their chances to win a variety of prizes, including high-value items such as an Xbox Series X, a Nintendo Switch, AirPods, self-care bundles, laundry bundles, Lego sets, and more.

In addition to the casino games, the MTU Film Board was present to add to the evening’s entertainment. Originally scheduled to show Jurassic Park, the Film Board pivoted due to licensing issues and instead screened Ocean’s Eleven, a 2001 American heist comedy set in Las Vegas. The movie began at 7:30 p.m. and was free for all students, with complimentary popcorn and water provided to enhance the experience.

Vegas Night has been a longstanding tradition hosted by MHA, drawing hundreds of students each year and earning an Of the Month award from the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) in 2022. The MHA’s commitment to creating a fun and safe environment ensures that the event will continue to be a favorite among Michigan Tech students.

Other student organizations, such as the Wadsworth Hall Student Association and the Memorial Union Board, also host casino nights throughout the academic year, giving students even more opportunities to enjoy similar experiences.

This year’s Vegas Night was a success, showcasing MHA’s dedication to fostering community engagement and providing memorable experiences for Michigan Tech students.
