On Thursday, Mar. 13, the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts echoed with the sounds of the Huskies Pep Band’s concert, titled “99 Striped Balloons.” Known for their high-energy performances and antics, the band delivered an exciting evening that shook the crowd in their seats.
The concert kicked off at 7:30 p.m., with the Pep Band taking the stage in their signature black and gold striped overalls. From the first note, they showcased their musical power with a dynamic collection that spanned various genres, ensuring there was something for everyone in attendance.
One of the evening’s standout moments was their performance of “Fireball”, with the brass section delivering powerful melodies that sounded around the auditorium. However, for drummer Titus Lind, another song stole the show. “My favorite song is ‘99 Red Balloons’. It has a super fun bass drum part, so I was very excited to hear it was the theme for this year’s concert,” Lind shared.
Beyond the music, it was the unmistakable energy of the Pep Band that truly elevated the performance. “I think the energy is what makes us who we are. That’s what gets the crowd on their feet and cheering at games,” Lind said. The infectious energy was evident throughout the night, as the audience cheered along in the experience.
For many members, Pep Band is more than just music, it’s a family. “Pep Band is a great community and family I’ve found here. We are all playing because we love music. We all just want to be loud and have fun and cause a little chaos,” Lind added. That sense of passion was on full display, making this year’s concert an unforgettable hit in Michigan Tech’s campus life.
