Starting in the fall of 2025, the first class for the new B.S. in Aerospace Engineering is officially opening. AE 2500, Principles of Aerospace Engineering, is the first step in the rollout of the new major, introducing a wide range of aerospace topics such as principles of flight, space mechanics, jet engines, and rocket propulsion. The semester also introduces new changes to the Aerospace minor, with fall 2025 being the last time MEEM 4810 (intro to Aerospace Engineering) is offered. Students looking to take the minor will need to have taken MEEM 4810 before next spring to use the old minor requirements. The new major will have 128 credits, with 11 new aerospace courses under the prefix “AE.”
The Aerospace Department is excited for students to finally start the degree program, with a goal of having all new classes available in the spring of 2027. According to Aerospace Engineering Advisor Ryan Towles, if the department meets that goal, they “hope to have some students graduate spring of ‘27.” If you are interested in getting a major or minor in Aerospace Engineering, please schedule an appointment with one of the Aerospace Engineering advisors on their webpage or email meadvise@mtu.edu with any questions.
