Michigan Tech to host Sweeney Todd

Coming up in April, the Michigan Tech Theatre Series is proud to present their production of the musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The production will run from Thursday, Apr. 10, through Saturday, Apr. 12, with all three shows beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The production will feature Soren Schmidt as Sweeney Todd and Sarah Hayes as Mrs. Lovett. Other members of the cast include Charlie Wallace, Katherine Rauscher, Kate van Susante, Erin Kauppila, Sebastian Dash, Nick Lieffers, and Bradley Maycroft.

The story of the musical follows Sweeney Todd, a barber who has been wrongfully convicted and seeks revenge. The musical is dark and dramatic, with many plot twists to be expected. There are content warnings for the production regarding topics such as murder, coarse language, and cannibalism, which should be noted before attending the event.

The cast is working hard to get the show ready before opening night, practicing bringing the story of Sweeney Todd to life. Madelyn Carey, a member of the cast’s ensemble, remarked how she “has never felt so welcomed by my classmates and directorial team.” She further stated, “I could not ask for kinder, more caring, or more hardworking individuals to act with. I look forward to every rehearsal!” With all the hard work being put in behind the scenes, the musical will definitely not be one to miss!

The show is pay-as-you’re-able with the full ticket price being $20. Tickets will be available both online in advance through the Michigan Tech ticketing website and the Rosza ticketing counter for walk-ups the day of the show.

Further information regarding the presentation as well as a link to pre-buy tickets can be found under the events page of the events calendar website.
