There is a new way to get rid of unpaid parking tickets and help our community at the same time. Student affairs, transportation services, and HuskyFAN have teamed up to help with your parking citations in exchange for non-perishable foods to add to the HuskyFAN pantry. Kellie Raffaelli, the vice president of student affairs, says, “the food collected in the can citation drive will be donated to the HuskyFAN food pantry, located in Fisher Hall. This food pantry is open and available to the entire Michigan Tech community.” This promotion goes on from Feb. 3 to Feb. 23. For this you must donate non-expired and non-perishable food items or personal care items to the dean of the student’s office in room 130 in the Administration building. This can be done Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. When you donate, make sure to let the transportation service know so they can remove the ticket from your student account.
There are three options if you would like to donate. If you bring in a full brown grocery bag worth of non-perishable food items, a $25 citation is removed from your account. Another option would be to bring in eight 12-ounce cans which would also get rid of a $25 citation. Lastly, four 12-ounce cans will get a $10 citation removed from your account. This can be done a maximum of three times during the promotion but encourages students to donate more.
Along with this, when you donate you will be automatically entered into a raffle. This raffle is for a Michigan Tech parking pass. The HuskyFAN pantry is a student organization that gives out emergency meals along with non-perishable food items to students. This organization is located on the first floor in Fisher Hall, near Fisher 135 and the vending machines. Students can request items from the pantry through the order form on the HuskyFAN website. Hours vary and are completely on a volunteer basis, so you might need to come back. For more information, you can visit the HuskyFAN website or contact the dean of students at deanofstudents@mtu.edu to answer any questions.
