The audience laughed the entire night at the 80th Stage Revue at MTU on Thursday, Feb. 6. Held at the Rozsa Center, the skits were centered around jokes about Finlandia University, NMU, and college majors while incorporating the Winter Carnival theme: Dragons, Knights, and Legendary Sights. First place was Theta Chi Epsilon and Sigma Pi’s “The Quest for Snow”, second place was Phi Kappa Tau’s “Dragons, Squires, and Unfortunate Desires”, with third place going to Sigma Tau Gamma and Alpha Gamma Delta, who also won the Audience Choice Award for their skit titled, “Medieval Tech: Friends, Foes, and the Final Trial.” Stage Revue chair Joey Klapkowski said the event’s main goal is “to entertain and to give the organizations on campus a chance to put on a show while making people laugh and contribute to their overall carnival score.”
Organizations were able to entertain and express Winter Carnival in unique ways that required preparation and practice. Klapkowski said, “I find fun in seeing the skits develop and change throughout the entire semester and seeing the groups go out on stage and perform while seeing the audience reaction.”
Each of the eight skits followed the same theme but told different stories. The skit created by Sigma Tau Gamma and Alpha Gamma Delta told a story of friendship between two friends navigating their way through medieval MTU. Through the skit, they made new friends and faced their biggest challenge: their professor. The Theta Chi Epsilon and Sigma Pi’s skit included a journey across the Houghton-Hancock Lift Bridge to bring back snow to MTU, showing friendship, overcoming fears, and a harmonious relationship amongst majors.
Between the skits, stand-up comedian Pat MacIntyre was engaging the audience with challenges and games that they could win small prizes from. Fraternities, sororities, students, and community members all attended to show support for the organizations involved.
Klapkowski gave credit to Steve Jones, the production manager for the Rozsa, for being such a big help with the success of the event. Klapkowksi also mentioned that the event has grown from previous years with the amount of organizations and attendees. Stage Revue will return during the 2026 Winter Carnival to bring more laughs to the event.
