As the Winter Carnival comes to an end, the results of the snow statue competitions are in. Our overall winners of the Winter Carnival were Phi Kappa Tau in the men’s division, Alpha Sigma Tau for the Women’s division, and lastly, for the co-ed division Alpha Gamma Delta and Sigma Tau. When asking members of Phi Kappa Tau how this win feels, they said, “Amazing, a lot of hard work went into this and for us this is all volunteer hours.” Another representative of Phi Kappa Tau said, “Lots of hard work and dedication from the boys and all feels good in the end.”
The statue awards are split into 2 sections: month-long competition and all-nighter competition. The winners of these events were: Alpha Sigma Tau in the women’s division, Phi Kappa Tau in the men’s division, and lastly Alpha Gamma Delta and Sigma Tau Gamma in the co-ed division. The overall winner of the Winter Carnival statues was Phi Kappa Tau. When members of Phi Kappa Tau were asked how many man-hours they worked on the statue, they responded, “It is hard to know, we probably put in 175 to 200 man-hours per person into the statue building.”
For the all-nighter statues, the runner-up was Campus Crusade for Christ. The overall winner for the all-nighter statues was the St. Alberts. A representative, Emma Kerschbaumsaid, “We were there from 4 p.m. to 8:45 a.m. the next morning…lots of coffee and a lot of work.”
The winners of the overall special events were Phi Kappa Tau in the men’s division, Alpha Sigma Tau in the women’s division, and St. Albert’s in the co-ed division.
Skyler Spitzley, the president of Blue Key, shared how she thinks the event turned out after the minimal snowfall experienced during Winter Carnival last year. “I think weather helped a lot and think that energy was a lot better. This was a lot better with a lot more interest.”
