Stage Revue, Michigan Tech’s annual skit competition, will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6, in the Rozsa theater at 7 p.m. Blue Key National Honor Society hosts this event every year during Winter Carnival in which fraternities, sororities, student organizations, and resident halls can choose to participate. The top three skits will earn trophies and obtain points towards becoming the overall Winter Carnival winner. This winner will earn a plaque on the trophy stored in the Van Pelt and Opie Library.
Blue Key National Honor Society hosts all Winter Carnival events, but one of six committees is solely in charge of Stage Revue. The Stage Revue committee is composed of Scout Lex, Katherine Miller, Megan Kennedy, and is chaired by Joey Klapkowski. The committee is responsible for finding the event’s Master of Ceremonies (MC) and judges. Beyond scheduling and organizing the event, each skit is completely organized by the participating group. These skits are judged by both the judges and the audience for a separate Audience Choice Award for additional points towards the trophy. In addition to winning points towards the trophy, each of the top three skits will earn a prize in the form of a written check from Blue Key; first place will earn $600, followed by second place at $400 and third place at $200.
All the skits performed in the event are comedy sketches that playfully jest at happenings around Michigan Tech while encapsulating the theme of this year’s Winter Carnival; Dragons, Knights, and Legendary Sights. This year will be the 80th Stage Revue MTU has seen since the inaugural event in 1946. Everybody in the audience will get to vote on their favorite skit. Students eager to enjoy a fun night should attend to get their vote heard.
