Founded in 2004, Mitch’s Misfits has quickly grown into the largest student organization at Michigan Tech through its love of hockey. Mitch’s Misfits Travel Coordinator Braydon Oglesby stated, “We help students embrace the hockey team at games by starting chants, waving flags, and making a fun environment for the Huskies while making it harder for the away team.” Mitch’s Misfits is located in section L at the John Macinnes Student Ice Arena during home games.
Mitch’s Misfits promotes attendance and interest in MTU’s hockey events by leading an organized crowd at home games and organizing trips to away games. Additionally, they promote, create, and preserve the institution’s hockey traditions, as well as promote good sportsmanship among the NCAA hockey community. Oglesby later stated, “The club grew outside of just hockey games, putting together different intramural and broomball teams”.
Mitch’s Misfits trips include one away series in the fall and one away in the spring, plus both games at NMU. This spring, the club is traveling to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the Augustana University series. If you’re looking to join Mitch’s Misfits, here are some important things to know: Mitch’s Misfits sponsors freshman-orientated recruiting events before and during each hockey season.
