Club Spotlight: Mushing Club

Looking for a way to get outside and spend time with dogs? Then the Mushing Club might be for you! Michigan Tech’s Mushing Club gives students the opportunity to learn how to race sled dogs and participate in a variety of competitions.

The mush club holds meetings every Monday at 7 p.m. in the Wadsworth Cherry room, but they can often also be found at the dog kennels taking care of and running the sled dogs. The club offers a lot of flexibility in scheduling as well as giving members the option to get out to the kennels as much or as little as they want.

The club provides a great opportunity for students to compete and get outside. One of the current members of the club, Brynn Santi, comments on the countless opportunities the club has given her and how great a learning experience it has been. Santi comments that it is also a great way to unwind and relax after classes.

The club recently hosted five rookie racers at the Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race and is currently preparing for their home race, the Copper Dog, which will happen over spring break. Five members of their club will be racing in the Copper Dog with many other club members volunteering to help run the event. They are also excited to host free sled rides for the community on the Friday and Saturday of Winter Carnival.
