Academic resources for students

If your academic performance last semester did not go according to plan, Michigan Tech has a plethora of resources available to help students. A Coach from an anonymous learning center gave advice as to when students should seek help, “The key is coming to get help before that first major exam. Come by before and figure out where you’re struggling; whether you feel uncertain or not, anyone can benefit.”

There are two major learning centers on campus; the Math Learning Center and the Writing Center. The Math Learning Center is located in Fisher Hall 234 and is available for walk-in help. Coaches in the Math Learning Center are able to help with all math levels up to differential equations. On select days, there are additional coaches available to help with higher level courses. Hours of operation are available between Sunday and Friday. Those seeking more one-on-one help can schedule appointments for more direct tutoring from coaches on the Math Learning Center website.

For those struggling with a HASS course, Composition and Communication course, or just writing for classes at large, there is the Writing Center on the first floor of Walker’s Arts and Humanities building, room 107. Their hours are from 4:50 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Sundays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Coaches in this learning center can help with writing support, and can also assist with writer’s block, grant proposals, and even resume review.

Those searching for help beyond general education courses can seek out one of the many major-specific help centers. There are help rooms for Electrical Engineers, the Student Success Center for Civil, Environmental and Geospatial Engineers, the biology help room, and many more.
