Student Tips: Credit Cards made for College Students

For students looking to start building their credit score, picking the right credit card that provides the best perks can be tricky. The following is a rundown of the best credit cards designed for students to help build their credit score.

Discover provides two options for students with their Discover it Student Cash Back card, and their Discover it Student Chrome card. Both cards are designed for students who are new to credit and provide a $0 annual fee and a 17.74 percent to 26.74 percent variable APR. The Student Cash Back card offers five percent cash back on select categories that rotate every quarter and one percent cash back on all other purchases. The Student Chrome card offers two percent cash back at gas stations and restaurants, and one percent cashback on all other purchases. 

Capital One offers two good options for students with their Capital One Quicksilver Student card and their Capital One Savor Student card. Both of these cards have no annual fees and have a variable interest rate of 19.74 percent to 29.74 percent APR. With the Quicksilver card, you can simply earn 1.5 percent cash back on all purchases, while with the Savor card, students can earn three percent cash back on grocery stores, dining, entertainment, and streaming services. Users enjoy one percent cash back on all other purchases. 

For students who like to travel, the Bank of America Travel Rewards Card for Students may be a good option. This card offers no annual or foreign transaction fees and allows you to earn 1.5 points for every dollar spent on all purchases everywhere. These points can be used as a credit towards travel purchases.
