Last weekend was another exciting showing for Husky Athletics with the basketball, volleyball, and football teams all taking on competition through Friday and Saturday.
The men’s basketball team took on Missouri-St.Louis in an away game on Friday, Nov. 14 at 2:00 p.m., and lost 57-78. The next day at 2:00 p.m., they played another away game at Maryville University, also located in Missouri. After a great effort, the Huskies managed to pull through, winning the game 72-61, making their record 3-1 this season.
The women’s basketball team played a single game against Lewis University in Illinois on Friday, Nov. 14 at 8:00 p.m., and another on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8:00 p.m. against Upper Iowa. The team played well against both Lewis and Upper Iowa and won 68-55 and 70-30, respectively, pushing their record to 2-0 to start the season.
The women’s volleyball team took on Saginaw Valley State on Friday and Lake Superior State on Saturday. Both of these games were hosted by Tech in the SDC’s Wood Gym. The Huskies beat the Cardinals with a score of 3-1. The sets were as follows: 25-23, 25-15, 23-25, and 26-24. The following day against the Lakers, the team played another hard-fought game and won the match 3-0 with set scores of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-23. Overall, the team ended up 12-15 in the regular season, moving on to the GLIAC tournament.
Another matchup with the Cardinals occurred last weekend, as the Husky football team took on Saginaw Valley state head-on; despite a tough match between both teams, the Cardinals ended up taking the win. The final score ended up being 21-24, bringing an end to the Huskies’ season. The two played on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 12:00 p.m. in Kearley Stadium. In a postgame interview, coach Dan Mettlach said, “It’s tough for everybody, you know, you lose a game like that during the middle of the year, you got a chance to get that taste out of your mouth with another one, and now we’re going to the off-season with that one being the last one we play… but our guys competed and played their butts off. It was just, the brakes did not go our way with many of the calls and, you know, it’s tough to battle back from those types of situations.”
