Waterski and Wakeboard Club soaks in the fall weather

Michigan Tech’s Waterski and Wakeboard club is enjoying the last few weeks of warm weather and encourages any interested Huskies to join them before the lakes freeze. The club accepts all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, and is actively looking for new members to join their community.

Waterski and Wakeboard Club Vice President Halie Eiken spoke about what the organization offers for beginners. “You do not need to know how to waterski or wakeboard to join! We love to hold Learn to Ski Days, and even taught 30+ people how to ski last season. These are events where it is expected for you to be a newbie, and we bring all the equipment to help you learn.”

The club is also affiliated with both the National Collegiate Waterski Association (NCWSA) and USA Waterski and Wake Sports (USA-WSWS). This means that the more advanced skiers and boarders can have the opportunity to compete against other clubs throughout the Midwest. Since its start in Dec. 2023, the club’s devoted members have been working to provide the best experience to all Huskies, even if they are unable to commit to joining yet another club. “If someone is interested in just trying it out, we only ask for $10 base dues, and then your first ski is free. No hard commitment, but a great opportunity to try something new,” said Eiken.

If you are interested in keeping up to date on activities the club is planning, there are many ways to do so, as Eiken explained: “If students are wanting to get involved with the Waterski and Wakeboard Club, we suggest following us on Instagram and joining our Involvement Link. This will keep students updated whenever we are having important meetings or events. In our Instagram bio we do also have a bunch of super helpful links, like our waiver and a link to join SPOND, an app we use to sign up for practices. We have a bunch of different events in the beginning of the year to meet the team, like Ski Brunches at Prince’s Point. We try to get out on the water as much as possible, meaning sometimes we go out three times in a day.”
