Michigan Tech’s College Panhellenic Council (CPH) discussed hazing prevention, leadership programs, and upcoming events during its weekly meeting on Oct. 7 in the MUB Ballroom. CPH serves as the governing body for all sorority chapters on campus, coordinating recruitment, promoting community service, and organizing leadership and educational programming in collaboration with the Interfraternity Council (IFC). The council opened the meeting with routine business, including approval of previous minutes and officer reports confirming that violation records are now up to date. Members also discussed required attendance at Panhellenic events and requested feedback on the recruitment processes.

Council President Anna Hartz highlighted anti-hazing initiatives following Michigan Tech’s recent Anti-Hazing Week. “In the last week, each chapter placed anti-hazing signs on their front lawns. There are also training programs that cover anti-hazing that members must take.” While Hazing Awareness Week officially ended Oct. 3, Hartz emphasized that the council’s prevention efforts continue year-round through required member education and accountability measures across all chapters.

The council also reviewed a hazing prevention Instagram reel created jointly with IFC. The reel received positive attention across campus, according to Council Advisor Amy Hjerstedt, who stated, “Because of that reel, students reached out to Michigan Tech via the Dean’s Office and were super excited and happy to see sororities and fraternities lifting up this message.” Hjerstedt also announced that the Academic Intervention Team remains available to support students, and registration will be open for LeaderShape, a leadership development program. Workshops will be offered to help students write nominations for the program.

Other agenda items included electing members to the nominating committee, voting on 2025 standing rules—which passed without opposition—and noting upcoming events such as Make a Difference Day and volunteer opportunities with next semester’s Cocoa Shack. The council also reminded chapters about the Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards later this semester.

The meeting concluded with updates on outreach and community engagement as the council continues to promote service, leadership, and collaboration within Greek life.
